Back Flow Prevention
Backflow prevention valves are installed in all water systems to prevent the chance of contaminated water finding its way back into the water system. There are two causes of backflow: back pressure and back siphonage.
- Back pressure results from water on a premised developing a greater pressure than the incoming supply, forcing potentially contaminated water from the premises into the potable water supply
- Back siphonage results from a sudden and serious loss of pressure in the main water supply. This can be caused by a burst water main or use of a hydrant for fire fighting purposes, siphoning water and contaminants back into the potable water supply.
Back Flow Prevention valves must be installed in all water systems to prevent the chance of contaminated water finding its way back into the potable water system in accordance with AS3500.1:2003 as well as the manufacturers specifications and any local and state authority regulations. All devises must be installed, tested and inspected by qualified tradespeople.
